Urban Foods

Maria Villas-Boas and Marta Lousada, founders of Urban Foods

Urban Foods was founded in Lisbon by Maria Villas-Boas and Marta Lousada. Maria spent more than fifteen years in retail before starting it, as commercial manager for the healthy range at Continente and working on the opening of the first Go Natural stores. Marta joined as co-founder at the beginning of 2021, after ten years in retail and online, where she launched the online stores for Well's and then for Sephora.

The line they keep coming back to is that good food should not be a luxury and does not need to be complicated. The range follows from that: snacks with short ingredient lists, made to be eaten at a desk, in a car or between two meetings.

They work with Portuguese raw materials and national production wherever they can, so the value stays inside the country's own food chain. The banana chips are made with bananas from Madeira.

The snacks are sold in Pingo Doce, Continente, Auchan and El Corte Inglês, and in service stations. The flavour of one of the newer snacks was chosen by a public vote.

The company is based on Rua Maria Pia in Lisbon.
