BAM&BOO Natural Labs is based at Lagoa, on São Miguel in the Azores, with a shop at LX Factory in Lisbon. The brand launched in 2017 with a bamboo toothbrush and has since grown into a skincare company, though the toothbrush is still made and still sold.
The ingredients are the point of difference, and they are named with their origin. Green tea from São Miguel, volcanic basalt from the same island, Azorean laurel, Fucus algae from Portugal, virgin olive oil, and ground olive pit, which is a by-product of the olive harvest given a second use. Two of their formulations are proprietary: AlgaeTrioComplex+, built on Portuguese macroalgae extract with coenzyme Q10 and hyaluronic acid, and HydraShieldCLN, which combines green tea, Azorean laurel and niacinamide.
For hotels and offices there is a dedicated amenities line: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and a combined shampoo and shower gel, in formats that run from refillable to personalised presentation. Octant Furnas in the Azores, Torel Palace in Lisbon, L'And at Montemor-o-Novo and Quinta Filippa in Leiria all use it.
The bamboo toothbrush is made from Moso bamboo. The handle composts, the nylon bristles do not, and the company says so directly rather than glossing over it: the bristles have to be pulled out before the handle goes in the compost.
